Therapies Available

Manual Manipulation as well as a low force computerized technique, activator method is also available.

Electric Stimulation

Muscle Stimulation

This type of therapy uses light electrical pulses that are transmitted to specific areas of the body through electrodes placed on the skin. There are many different types of electrical stimulation. Some are more beneficial for pain relief or to reduce inflammation, some best treat muscle spasm, and some actually cause muscles to contract in order to reduce muscle atrophy. Some forms of electrical stimulation have combination effects.

Therapeutic Exercise

Chiropractors commonly prescribe specific strengthening exercises for their patients with back, neck, and extremity problems. These exercises can decrease pain, prevent muscle deterioration, promote joint health, increase strength, stability and range of motion, and protect against new or recurring injuries.

Your chiropractor will show you how to do the exercises and supervise you until you are comfortable doing them on your own. It's important to keep up with your exercises as prescribed (similarly to drug prescriptions). Studies show that individuals who follow their exercise instructions heal faster than those who do not.

Ultrasound

Therapeutic ultrasound is a form of deep heat therapy created by sound waves. When applied to soft tissues and joints, the sound waves are a form of micro-massage that help reduce swelling, increase blood flow, and decrease pain, stiffness, and spasms.

Ice and Heat Therapy

Ice and heat have long been used to treat many painful conditions. Ice therapy is often used to reduce swelling and help control pain immediately after an injury. Heat therapy is used to relax the muscles, increase circulation, and can provide relief to patients with chronic pain. Depending on the patient's condition, a combination of ice and heat can be used.

Diet and Nutritional Counseling

Studies have shown that poor diet and nutritional imbalances contribute to a number of serious illnesses, such as heart disease, stroke, diabetes, and cancer. Chiropractors are specifically trained in diet and nutritional counseling. Your chiropractor can design a nutritional program specific to your needs that can help you maintain good health and minimize the risk of developing these serious health conditions.

Lifestyle Modification Counseling

Good health is much more than the absence of pain or disease. The lifestyle choices you make on a daily basis can greatly affect your long-term health. We now know that years of seemingly small unhealthy lifestyle choices can, over time, turn into very large health problems. Examples of lifestyle choices and behaviors that can have negative effects on your health include:

  • lack of regular exercise
  • smoking
  • poor diet
  • excessive mental stress
  • over-reliance on medication
  • excessive consumption of alcohol
  • poor posture
  • improper lifting

We will talk to you about your lifestyle choices, help you sort through and identify unhealthy health habits, and give you practical strategies to deal with and manage them.

As you can see, chiropractic medicine is more than just spinal manipulations. Chiropractors use a variety of treatment modalities to help the body to heal itself and return the patient to a pain-free and healthy life.

EXPLANATION OF LIGHT (LASER) THERAPY

"Light therapy is not a new concept. The sun's photonic rays cause a seed to sprout through RNA and DNA changes. The sun's rays are full-spectrum light, which means many wavelengths are present (400-800 Nanometers), but only one specific wavelength, or frequency, causes the seeds to germinate. In 1924 Bose and Einstein, great men of science, predicted the Laser. Laser is an acronym for Light Amplification by Stimulated Emission of Radiation.

Laser therapy is based on photochemical and photobiological effects of the cells and tissues. With laser light, cell functions are stimulated, especially the increase of a cells ATP (energy). This increase in ATP synthesis is associated with increased cell metabolism; increase collagen synthesis, stimulation of DNA formation, improved immune system function and increased new formation of capillaries. The laser also has been shown to increase neurotransmitters (serotonin), to increase enhance tissue regeneration through increasing fibroblasts and keratinocytes, to increase antioxidants and to accelerate bone and scar healing.

Laser therapy may be useful to you if you have any of the following:

  • tendonitis
  • frozen shoulder
  • fractures
  • post-operative wounds
  • sprain-strains
  • scar tissue
  • autoimmune diseases
  • chronic or acute pain
  • wound healing
  • arthritis
  • migraines
  • disc herniations
  • minor nerve damage
  • carpal tunnel syndrome
  • heavy metal detoxification

Clinical Benefits of Traction Therapy

Research points to the beneficial effects of traction because it can distract joint surfaces, reduce protrusions of nuclear discal material, stretch soft-tissue muscles and mobilize joints. These effects provide many patients with pain relief from spinal dysfunction. The stimulation of sensory mechanoreceptors that occurs with the application of traction may also gate pain transmission.

Intended Uses for Triton DTS® Traction System

The Trriton DTS Traction System can be used to relieve peripheral radiation/sciatica and pain associated with:

  • Protruding discs
  • Bulging discs
  • Herniated discs
  • Degenerative Disc Disease
  • Posterior Facet Syndrome
  • Acute Facet problems
  • Radicular pain
  • Prolapsed discs
  • Spinal root impingement
  • Hypomobility
  • Degenerative Joint Disease
  • Facet Syndrome
  • Compression Fractures
  • Joint Pain
  • Discogenic Pain

Mechanical/Physiological Effects of Traction Therapy

Decompression of the Spine

  • Unload spine
  • Decrease bulging and protruding discs
  • Separate vertebrae
  • Decrease Pain

Mobilization of the Spine

  • Stretch ligaments and tendons
  • Mobilize the capsule, facet joints and intravertebral discs
  • Increase range of motion
  • Increase flexibility

Intersegmental Traction

What is Inter-segmental Traction?

It is a way of inducing passive motion into the spine for the purpose of stretching spinal joint, increases mobility.

How does Inter-segmental Traction work?

The patient lies face up on a bench table which has roller-type cams beneath its surface. These rollers can slowly travel the length of the spine, stretching spinal joints.

What does Inter-segmental Traction feel like?

Most patients find this form of treatment to be relaxing and very helpful. The gentle rolling action is restful, exercising the spine without effort.

Why is Inter-segmental Traction used?

Since discs have a poor blood supply, they get nutrients from the circulation of fluids surrounding spinal joints. Fixations prevent this natural circulation and can cause disc thinning and degeneration. Inter-segmental traction helps increase and restore necessary elasticity and motion to the spine.

Summary of Patient Benefits:

  • Comfortable and relaxing Increased mobility
  • Improves circulation of spinal fluids
  • Most patients enjoy the relaxing motion and the increased mobility gained from Inter-segmental
